designed one from Czech Railways' cur-
rent fleet, will be attached to the sets. The
ComfortJet will not only help along the
route that it travels on directly. As dozens
of new carriages are put into operation,
we will continue to phase out the older
carriages and replace them by redeploy-
ing the more advanced types featuring air-
conditioning, Wi-Fi, and other equipment
that currently run on the services that will
be taken over by the ComfortJet sets,"
says Michal Krapinec, Chair of the Board
and CEO of Czech Railways.
At the end of the summer, the first Com-
fortJet sets should be temporarily deploy-
ed as the Berliner service heading to the
German capital. ComfortJets will gradual-
ly begin to appear as the Vindobona and
Metropolitan services. At the start of their
service, they will be using their top speed
of 230 km/h between Berlin and Ham-
burg, for example, and in the future they
will also be able to achieve it on more li-
nes, such as the new Koralmbahn in Au-
stria or on the first high-speed rail sections
in the Czech Republic.
"Investing in a quality, fast, and reliable
fleet is a way to attract new customers to
the railway and offer a sustainable mode
of travel. That's why I am delighted to see
the first ComfortJet set being presented
today, as it is designed for speeds of up to
230 km/h and offers a number of comfort
features. Passengers will be able to enjoy
unrestricted, step-free passage through
the train, visit the restaurant section with a
modern kitchen, entertain their children in
a dedicated area with a children's cinema,
and recharge their e-bikes in a section re-
served for 12 bicycles. During their jour-
ney, they can expect an improved mobile
signal thanks to innovative window tech-
nology, comfortable and adjustable seats,
wireless mobile phone charging in first
class, USB sockets for charging electro-
nics, and other services such as an onbo-
ard information and reservation system. I
believe that riding the new trains will be
an enjoyable experience. We are now ful-
ly focused on manufacturing more sets,
for which we have by now produced
about a third of the vehicle shells and
which will be gradually arriving on the
tracks until 2026, says Roman Kokšal,
CEO of Siemens Mobility.
"Our group is a traditional supplier of
trains, and not only for the Czech railway,
and we are proud to be part of yet anot-
her significant milestone in the history of
the Czech railway. For us, the ComfortJets
bring together two major companies in
the field to work together and jointly sha-
pe future mobility and modernise railway
transport in the Czech Republic and Euro-
pe. That is why the new vehicles can be
described as quintessentially European –
they are built in several places throughout
Europe and will roam the railways regard-
less of national borders. As for the current
production, there are currently 16 carria-
ges at various stages of production at our
manufacturing plant in Ostrava and more
will be arriving soon," says Tomáš Igna-
čák, President of CZ&SK and Central East
Regions and Vice-Chair of Škoda Group.
The delivery of the first modern Comfor-
tJet sets is a part of the unprecedented re-
newal project of Czech Railways' rolling
stock, which will take place during this
year. This year, the railways will be recei-
ving nearly 140 new electric units, diesel
multiple units, and non-traction units and
electric locomotives. Counting each carri-
age and unit of the sets separately, it co-
mes to about 440 individual vehicles. Con-
verted to seats, Czech Railways will put
into operation over 22 thousand comfor-
table seats on air-conditioned and step-
free trains with onboard Wi-Fi and other
gadgets that are part of 21st-century tra-
vel. p
