A new CO2 sensor for rolling stock
A new CO2 sensor for rolling stock: ventilation control and air quality
CO
2
sensors in air ducts help ensure a com-
fortable climate for passengers throug-
hout their journey. The air conditioner al-
so controls the air on the basis of
evaluating CO
2
levels, thus saving both
energy and costs. Regulation thus beco-
mes more efficient.
The new CO
2
sensors consist of a plastic
head with a stem and are available either
with a 4 to 20 mA output (the KSC 520
sensor) or the RS 485/MODBUS sensor
(the KSC 122 sensor). A modified version
with a CAN protocol output is also avai-
lable. You can therefore choose the opti-
on that is compatible with the control sys-
tem in question. With the "S-Head" design
developed by SENSIT, installation is easy.
The CO
2
measurement range is 400 to
5,000 ppm and the measurement accuracy
is ±50 ppm (+3% of the measured value).
Just like the other temperature, relative
humidity, CO2, atmospheric pressure,
and VOC sensors intended for rolling
stock and manufactured by SENSIT, this
new product meets the requirements set
out by the applicable railway standards:
• Insulation test according
to ČSN EN 50155
• Shock and vibration testing
according to ČSN EN 61373
• Electromagnetic compatibility
according to ČSN EN 50121-3-2
• Fire resistance according to EN 45545.
CO
2
in rolling stock can also be measu-
red with the KSTHC 102 (RS 485 output)
and KSTHC 104 (CAN protocol output)
combined interior sensors. In addition to
sensing CO
2
concentration, they also me-
asure the temperature and relative humi-
dity, making them effective at demisting
the windows and walls of trainsets. The
KSTHCPV 102 sensor is designed to regu-
late temperature, relative humidity, at-
mospheric pressure, and air quality (by
sensing CO
2
and VOC concentrations) in
the passenger compartments of trainsets
and carriages.

sensors
for use in rolling stock applications, the product range of the Czech manufacturer
SENSIT s.r.o. now includes two new sensors for measuring concentrations
of carbon dioxide in air ducts.
