Editorial of Rail Transport 2024: fleet renewal and the Czech railway industry

Vážení čtenáři,
je fascinující, jakým směrem se pohybu-
je výroba v průmyslovém odvětví. Na
dnešním rozsáhlém, konkurencí hnaném
trhu se daří především výrobcům, kteří
aktuálně dokážou svůj produkt udržovat
zcela odlišný. Aby byl dnes výrobce dlou-
hodobě ziskový, musí mít buď monopol,
patent, nebo udržet výrobní náklady na
rozumné hranici. Prostě je potřeba vy-
dělat o minimálně korunu více, než je
potřeba firmy. To ovšem předpokládá
investice do výrobních technologií, jejich
údržby, manipulační techniky a dalších
podpůrných prostředků nutných k pod-
poře výroby. Důsledkem velkých fixních
nákladů byla kdysi jistá výrobková uni-
formita, podpíraná reklamním tlakem
velkovýrobců, bojících se rizika přílišné
novoty. Udržovat velkovýrobu beze změn
již nelze po desetiletí. Konkurenční tlaky
rostou, ale možnosti rovněž. Nové trendy
v manipulační technice i strojírenství, což
jsou hlavní témata tohoto čísla, umožňují
náklady na obměnu a modernizaci vý-
roby podstatně snížit. Je to zčásti tím,
že ceny snížila v minulosti konkurence,
zčásti nasyceností trhu. Progrese obou
zmíněných oborů závisí na nejnovějších
trendech a potřebách, podle Moorova zá-
kona drží růst výkonu na exponenciále.
Stejné investice, které nedávno zaplatily
výrobu s několika izolovanými automaty
či jednoduchými manipulátory a podílem
ruční práce, dnes zaplatí linku s mnoha-
násobným objemem i přesností výroby,
která navíc umožní malé série s pilotními
modifikacemi. Úspora při zavedení nové
výroby plyne také z modularizace a stan-
dardizace, tedy z možnosti postavit novou
komplexní výrobu ze stejných základních
kamenů. Produkce se tedy v některých
oborech vrací k zakázkovým prvopočát-
kům, a to formou automatické výroby
s individuálními modifikacemi. Novinky
to však budou mít, díky lidské přirozenos-
ti, stále těžké.

Hello, dear readers,
The topic of our special feature is rail tran-
sport, an environmental pillar of modern
infrastructure. Its effectiveness and envi-
ronmental benefits make rail transport an
increasingly important part of modern in-
frastructure. Symbols of sustainable tran-
sport, trains connect cities, countries, and
continents, contributing to economic
growth and social integration. Environ-
mental aspects are at the core of both
passenger and freight rail transport.
Trains deliver high energy efficiency. Elec-
tric trains use energy much more efficiently
than cars or planes. By using advanced
technologies such as regenerative braking
systems, trains can return energy into the
grid, further reducing their energy de-
mand.
Compared to car and air transport, trains
produce far fewer greenhouse gases. The
electrification of railway lines and the use
of renewable energy sources such as wind
and solar energy contribute to reducing
the carbon footprint of rail transport.
Modern rail infrastructure includes the
trains as well as an extensive network of
tracks, stations, and support facilities that
work together to ensure efficient and reli-
able operation. Investment in moderni-
sing and expanding rail infrastructure is
crucial for the sustainable development of
transport.
Electrification is one of the key steps to-
wards making rail transport more environ-
mentally friendly. Electrified lines allow the
operation of electric trains, which are cle-
aner and more efficient than their diesel
counterparts. Intensive electrification ef-
forts are currently under way on railway li-
nes in many countries worldwide.
Advanced technologies play a key part in
the modernisation of rail transport. Auto-
mated train control systems, such as ETCS
(the European Train Control System),
enable more accurate and safer operati-
on. Innovations in the area of materials
and design improve durability and reduce
train weight, contributing to lower energy
consumption.
Rail transport offers solutions to many of
the challenges faced by modern society.
