block for faster maintenance, and audible
alarms (optionally with optical indications)
allowing different sequences of audible
warnings to be set. The range of circuit
breakers with different actuation triggers
can be installed in electrical switchboards
for system protection.

components
Railway rolling stock includes a number of
electrical cabinets that group together va-
rious circuits and devices that require the
presence of control devices and compo-
nents designed to provide electrical isola-
tion. The MAFELEC products that are offe-
red include mainly switches, actuators,
indicators, circuit breakers, insulators, and
terminal blocks. The products are desig-
ned, certified, tested, and supplied in
accordance with the requirements of stan-
dards for the operation of railway electri-
cal equipment, such as EN 50155 and EN
45545.
External and interior lighting
For over 15 years, MAFELEC has been a
key player in the front lighting of railway
rolling stock in Europe and worldwide. Its
optical, electronic, and mechanical exper-
tise allows the company to offer a wide
range of external and interior lighting for
new trains, trams, and underground ve-
hicles and for upgrading and retrofitting
legacy vehicles to new operating conditi-
ons and standards.
For example, the M-Light range includes
standard external LED headlights and mar-
ker lights, such as the ML5-1/170. In addi-
tion, specific solutions adapted to the de-
sign requested by the customer can also
be manufactured. This allows the compa-
ny to respond to various outdoor lighting
configurations required in every country in
the world. The products are designed, cer-
tified, and supplied in accordance with the
requirements of the railway standards EN
50155, EN 45545/NFPA130, EN 15153-1,
TSI LOC & PAS, and 49 CFR 229.
Components for passengers
In order to meet the ever-increasing stan-
dards and expectations of passengers in
terms of accessibility, comfort, and safety,
the range of safe, distinctive, and easy-to-
use signalling and control features continu-
es to be innovated and expanded. This app-
lies to both equipment intended for new
trains and to the refurbishment of legacy
rolling stock. The range today must include
everything from buttons to requests for as-
sistance for people with reduced mobility
(PRM) to various visual and audible signals.
For example, the M-Door product range,
which has been on the market for almost
15 years, meets the needs of door control
for users and gives visual and audible sig-
nals to inform/warn passengers about the
status of the door. Products in this range
include M-Door-VG (buttons mounted in-
to a hole drilled into the wall) and M-Do-
or-GM (buttons mounted onto the glass
without drilling), and indicator lights with
symbols and buzzers.
What also needs to be included today
are solutions for charging passengers' por-
table devices, and it is therefore necessary
to fit vehicles with features such as 230V
AC power outlets and USB charging ports.
USB outlets are generally very sensitive to
mechanical damage. Mafelec USB sockets
are highly innovative in this respect, as
they allow quick repair, if needed, by re-
placing the connector block with two spe-
cial disassembly tools without the need for
soldering or handling screws.
All the above products are designed,
certified, tested, and supplied in accor-
dance with the requirements of standards
such as TSI PMR, EN 16683, EN 14752,
EN 50155, EN 45545/NFPA130, etc.
Rail safety features
The safe operation of rolling stock requi-
res the use of reliable control and signal-
ling equipment, whether the requirement
is for emergency braking or for guarante-
ed delivery of error messages for sensitive
functions such as braking.
MAFELEC has therefore consistently of-
fered solutions such as emergency brake
buttons, VACMA pedals, alarm handles,
brake indicators, and signal boxes that
make possible the quick and reliable exe-
cution of these crucial safety functions.
The products therefore meet the stan-
dards and requirements for operational
safety and reliability in rail transport (e.g.
EN 50155, EN 50126, SIL).
Turck and the New TSL-ESCHA
HST Buttons for Public Transport
TSL-ESCHA products are installed in bu-
ses, trolleybuses, and trains all around the
world. Since 2004, the HST series of but-
tons have also been making an appearan-
ce on handrails and walls. The latest inno-
vation is the HSTIA variant (with the "A"
standing for "acoustic") with acoustic fe-
edback, developed for a project in Po-
land. The aim is to provide passengers
with improved safety through additional
