insulation monitoring must be deactivated and the entire PV plant
is set to a high positive potential (voltage to ground of up to
+1000 V). After the PID shift has been performed, the insulation
monitoring technology must adjust to the new condition of the
installation in order to read the insulation condition correctly.
An electrically safe solution
Bender insulation monitoring devices for photovoltaic installa-
tions, such as the isoPV1685 series of instruments, are desig-
ned to handle fluctuating environmental conditions, monito-
ring, and deactivation during the PID shift in accordance with
the applicable standards. Their adaptive measurement met-
hod adjusts automatically to environmental influences (free-
zing, humid, and dry conditions). They always record the in-
sulation resistance (Rf) and stray capacitance (Ce) of the
network reliably. After a PID shift, the instruments adjust im-
mediately to the new conditions and continue to give correct
readings without interference.
