rail transport l automation
ComatReleco electrical
switching elements
d
Electric lights and other appliances must
be properly switched and controlled
(On/Off). Whether used in high-speed
trains, trams, metros, cable cars or other
rail vehicles, but also switchboards in tunnels, bridges, train stations, ships, etc.,
components are always expected to last
a long time in demanding conditions.
Mainly for this equipment, ComatReleco
manufactures a wide range of relays
and other components for switching
common appliances
and LED lights, or
monitoring voltage
or current levels.
They have been developed in accordance with the European
railway
standard EN 50155.
These are mainly relays for switching currents up to 16 A (depending on the type up to 800 A), contactors up to 25 A, monitoring relays, and
a wide range of electromechanical or semiconductor time relays for various, even
non-standard, voltage levels. These products meet all related railway standards
and norms, including DIN EN 45545 (fire
protection of railway vehicles).
Inductive and optical sensors
d
Inductive sensors are probably the most
common automation elements, but the
standard design is not sufficient for many
applications. This is why Turck has developed and manufactures special types that
can withstand demanding conditions such
as high vibrations, temperatures, pressures, temperature changes, splashes of salts
or cleaning agents, etc. Therefore, monitoring of the status/position of various
metal parts of the device can be solved in
an easy and reliable way. In addition,
Turck uprox+ inductive sensors provide
a large switching distance that is the same
for all types of metals, a precise switching
point, and fast response.
Optical sensors and safety light curtains
are ideal for monitoring the door areas
of transport vehicles during exiting and
boarding, providing timely and especially
safe automatic door control. They can also be used for the permanent monitoring
and detection of the designated delimited
transport area, or for counting passengers.
Pressure sensors
d
One of the most frequently measured quantities is pressure. This is used in hydraulic
or cooling circuits, closed tanks, or tank
containers. Turck also offers a wide range
of pressure sensor solutions for vehicle
equipment. Even though there is a large
number of different
process connections
and output signals,
and a large selection
of pressure ranges,
an optimal sensor can
be found for any application. With the intelligent functions of
IO-Link, the PS510
and PS310 lines are
perfectly prepared
for the needs of
precise automatic
control. The new
compact pressure
transmitters of the PT1000 line meet the
conditions of common industrial applications, as well as the heavy duty conditions
of railway applications (e.g. on brake systems) and are therefore a very interesting
alternative to the types used so far.
Turck offers the Vilant RFID system, which
can monitor the condition of rolling stock
through a network of RFID detectors installed at selected locations near the track,
company entrances, workshops, car washes, consignment depots, and individual
stations, or even in depots with mobile readers. The solution includes delivery from
individual RFID chips to software with
connection to the ERP system of the user
or owner. Full use of data registered by
the fault detection system enables preventive maintenance to increase safety and
operational efficiency. In this area, the
GEN2 UHF RFID technology and the robust Vilant Railroad units have proven
to be successful. This makes the work of
the train operator in assigning various maintenance and service tasks much faster
and much more precise.
The RFID monitoring of rolling stock in
real time as it passes through a reading
gate also enables the accurate monitoring
Connecting
and interconnecting cabling
d
Quality and durable cabling is the basis of
any reliable electrical and bus bar system.
This is why Turck offers a wide range of individual connector cables, cable harnesses, and separate connectors. For vehicle
applications, Turck manufactures cables
with the connection technology DT – Deutsch connectors and TSS – Superseal
connectors which are specially adapted to
the specific requirements of vehicles. By
using silicone seals providing IP67 and
IP69K protection, connections are protected against the high pressure or steam cleaning which is usually done on vehicles.
RFID systems for efficient fleet
management
d
To ensure more efficient registration of
each wagon, their maintenance and repair,
and meeting transport and safety needs,
and identification of traffic. RFID also allows the creation of a database and the
sharing of data with operators who own
trains or their freight, and the precise identification of all wagons and locomotives.
More efficient management can therefore
increase the use of cars. It also results
in an increase in the performance of customer services, streamlining internal processes in general, as is evidenced by successfully implemented applications such
as the metro in Helsinki, the Finnish Transport Agency, and VR Group.
Conclusion
d
Turck's product portfolio is really very extensive, but Turck is now also a supplier of
complete system solutions. If you are interested in more detailed information, do
not hesitate to contact our technical department. We will be happy to prepare
a proposal for a bespoke solution concept
for your applications, prepare 3D product
models, software, related calculations and
simulations, and provide you with professional consultations.
