  Dear readers,

  Taiwan, this island country located on the east coast of Asia, has a strong

  progression not only in the Czech, European and global markets. With its

  dynamic industry, innovative technologies and skilled workforce, Taiwan is

  becoming a key player in global trade. In this editorial we would like to

  focus on Taiwanese business and its relationship to the European market,

  especially in the eld of engineering and mutual cooperation. Taiwan boasts

  a wide range of industries, but engineering occupies a prominent place.

  Taiwanese companies specialise in the manufacture of technologically

  advanced machinery and equipment, including industrial robots, CNC

  machines, electronics and much more.

  This industry is becoming increasingly important to the European market,

  which is always looking for efcient and quality products.

  development and production of technologically demanding equipment,

  while the European market has a strong demand for these products. Joint

  efforts in research, development and trade can bring innovation, efciency

  and competitiveness to both regions. European companies can benet from

  Taiwan's expertise and exibility in engineering, which will allow them to

  gain access to high quality technological solutions. At the same time, Taiwan

  can benet from the rich know-how of the European market and its extensive

  network of business contacts.

  Cooperation between Taiwan and Europe is not limited to engineering. Open

  dialogue and cooperation can cover many other areas such as information

  technology, healthcare, re- newable energy and others. These relations can

  bring mutual benets and help both regions to grow and develop.

  In conclusion, Taiwan and Europe have many common interests and

  opportunities for cooperation. Engineering is just one area where these

  partners can achieve success toget- her. It is time to develop this cooperation

  and benet from the wealth of experience that both regions offer.

  Global Market Estimates

  According to TMBA, the economic

  performance of some countries and

  industrial markets is expected to be

  excellent in 2024, but it is estimated that

  more than 70 countries in the world will

  hold national elections this year. In addition,

  geopolitical interference, the Russian-

  Ukrainian war, which has yet to be resolved,

  and the green carbon reduction policies

  of various countries may have various

  degrees of impact on domestic exports

  of machine tools and accessory builders,

  and it is necessary to pay attention to the

  development of the future.

  As regards the forecast of Taiwan's main

  export markets for machine tools in 2024,

  the rising inflation and interest rates in

  2023 will make U.S. consumption tighten

  and investment in equipment assets

  become more conservative, coupled with

  the U.S. presidential election to be held

  this year, which is slightly more variable.

  In the European market, despite slowing

  inflation and economic recovery, the

  energy crisis has not been resolved and

  the European Union's Carbon Border

  The Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builder's Association (TMBA) held the

  "TMTS 2024 & Machine Tool Annual Outlook Press Conference" on 23rd January

  for the "Taiwan International Machine Tool Show" (TMTS, Taiwan Machine Tool

  Show) to be held in March this year, on the one hand, to conduct pre-show

  publicity and, at the same time, to announce the annual production and sales

  status of the machine tool industry and the outlook for the year 2024.

  begun to levy a carbon tariff, which has

  slowed the recovery in consumer demand

  for machine tools. China's market is

  affected by the real estate market bubble,

  lack of public consumer confidence

  and other issues, resulting in sluggish

  demand for private investment, which in

  turn affects the willingness to purchase

  equipment. On the other hand, India,

  Vietnam and Thailand in Southeast Asia

  are benefiting from post-pandemic supply

  chain restructuring, production relocation

  and rising domestic manufacturing

  demand, which has led to a significant

  increase in demand for machine tools.

  The theme of the TMTS 2024

  exhibition is "Dual Axis

  Intelligent Manufacturing

  for a Sustainable Future".

  From 27 March to 31 March this year,

  TMTS 2024 will be held at the Taipei

  Nangang Exhibition Center, Halls 1 and

  2. The show will run for five days,

  with more than 600 exhibitors, 3,350

  booths and more than 10 overseas

  buyers registered for the show, which is

  expected to attract 55,000 visitors.

  The theme of this year's exhibition is

  "Dual Axis Intelligent Manufacturing

  for a Sustainable Future", focusing on

  the ten elements of the two main axes

  of Digital Transformation (DX) and

  Green Transformation (GX), which

  correspond to the future development

  trend of the industry. To demonstrate the

  characteristics of the industry ecosystem,

  the booth arrangement is based on the

  solution of the machine tool industry

  ecosystem as the main axis of the

  exhibition, and visitors can quickly search

  for exhibitors' key points through the

  exhibition app.

  In the area of digital transformation, TMBA

  collaborated with the German Machine

  Tool Builders' Association (VDW) and the

  German Machine and Plant Construction

  (VDMA) to set up Umati special showcase

  section for the first time at a domestic

  machine tool exhibition, and more than 20

  domestic machine tool and component

  manufacturers responded to the event by

  showcasing their intelligent ecosystems

  across multiple venues.

  In the area of green transformation, the

  "Green Machine Energy Label Assessment"

  will encourage exhibitors to develop

  energy-saving equipment or energy-saving

  accessories, and to demonstrate their green

  transformation efforts through different

  levels of labels. During the exhibition,

  a series of forums will be held, inviting

  experts from Taiwan and abroad to share

  their views on key issues such as digital

  transformation, green transformation and

  talent cultivation for the industry, as well as

  organizing visits by students from domestic

  universities and colleges.

• Czech Companies Have Deepened Their Business Relations With Taiwan

  On her visit to South Korea and Taiwan,

  Markéta Pekarová Adamová, President of

  the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of

  the Czech Republic, was joined by a hundred

  Czech companies and organizations led

  by the Czech Confederation of Industry

  and Transport and the Czech-Taiwanese

  Chamber of Commerce. The largest

  business event of the visit’s schedule was

  held in Taipei. The Confederation of Industry

  and Transport worked with CIECA (Chinese

  International Economic Cooperation

  Association) to prepare the 18th annual

  Czech-Taiwanese business council, which

  was attended by over 200 people including

  the Czech company representatives. As

  part of this event, five Czech companies

  representing the fields of healthcare,

  engineering, energetics and ICT signed

  a memorandum of understanding with

  Taiwanese partners. This served to deepen

  the cooperation between the partners.

  “Czech companies have a lot to offer.

  They are flexible, innovative, and they

  have extensive experience on global

  markets. Our delegation is full of

  progressive, stable and prospective

  companies that can offer Taiwanese

  partners cooperation that will greatly

  benefit both sides,” Jaroslav Hanák,

  president of the Czech Confederation of

  Industry and Transport, said in his opening

  statement for the Czech-Taiwanese

  business council.

  For example, the company APEX

  DYNAMICS CZECH s.r.o. has been closely

  cooperating with a Tainwanese manufacturer

  of planetary gearboxes and rack and pinion

  gears for over a decade now. Over the

  years, these products have built a strong

  position for themselves on the Czech

  market, and the company grew to become

  one of the top three suppliers. Through

  the memorandum, the company was able

  to further solidify their business relations

  with their Taiwanese partner and deepen

  their technical cooperation in developing

  propulsion systems for the automation of

  Czech machines and businesses.

  RAVEO s.r.o. signed a memorandum with

  cpc Chieftek Precision Co., Ltd, with the

  purpose of joining forces in the development

  of business activities involving linear

  bearings and designing new products that

  would involve collaboration with Czech

  subjects. The memorandum also bound

  the companies to adjust product prices,

  which have become a hotly debated topic in

  light of the price hikes seen in recent years.

  This step will allow Czech manufacturers and

  customers to receive more enticing price

  offers on linear drive units, in turn granting

  them more competitiveness.

  Another company that deepened their

  relationship with their Taiwanese partners

  was IBG Česko s.r.o., which is a prominent

  manufacturer and integrator of battery

  energy storage systems with branches

  in Slovakia and Hungary. Based on

  the cooperation agreement IBG signed

  with SMS InfoComm, which now also has

  a branch office in Czechia, the companies

  plan to work together to create a recycling

  center for lithium ion batteries in Czechia,

  which would coincide with both companies’

  ecosystem of a circular economy. As part

  of their research project, IBG also involved

  the academic sector with the inclusion of

  the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in

  Ústí Nad Labem and CHEMINVEST, which

  will provide the project documentation for

  the recycling line’s construction.

  SMS InfoComm also signed a memorandum

  of understanding with STIMVIA. Together

  they want to participate in the production

  and marketing of a product that is the first

  clinically tested non-invasive closed loop

  biofeedback treatment device in its class.

  The innovative companies ICONTIO

  and TaiDoc Corporation have a joint

  interest in improving the healthcare of

  their respective regions through the use

  of cutting edge technologies and original

  solutions. The two partners have agreed to

  close cooperation and mutual support on

  issues of common interest in the research

  and development of technologies and

  solutions in the fields of telemedicine and

  social services or the care for people with

  special needs, including the elderly.

  A part of the delegation of Czech

  entrepreneurs and representatives of

  universities and local governments that

  have joined the President of the Chamber

  of Deputies on her visit will stay in Taiwan

  until Wednesday, while the rest of the

  group will be leaving at the end of the

  week. The upcoming program for the

  companies includes numerous business

  meetings as well as the Smart City Summit

  and Expo trade fairs.

  Czech companies have now concluded meetings pertaining to their business missions

  to South Korea and Taiwan. After completing the program in Korea’s Seoul and

  Busan, the delegation of five Czech representatives for the healthcare, engineering,

  energetics and ICT industries, traveled to Taipei, where one of their activities included

  the signing of a memorandum of understanding with their Taiwanese partners.

  for the Semiconductor Industry

  The Check the Czechs seminar was held at the start of February in Taipei.

  It presented the Czech investment environment to local investors involved

  in the semiconductor industry. The event was met with great interest from

  participants, which confirmed the growing interest in the Czech market.

  The program featured presentations by representatives of the CzechInvest agency,

  and gave participants key information and suggestions about investing in Czechia.

  “Not only is the interest in Czechia

  evidenced by the large participation in

  the seminar and the rapid development

  of cooperation with the Czech

  semiconductor cluster, but most

  importantly it is supported by the sheer

  volume of contact made pertaining to the

  supply chain for the planned TSMC chip

  factory in Dresden. As this location is very

  close to Czechia, this is a big opportunity

  for us,” Petr Očko, Chief Director of the

  Digitalisation and Innovation Section

  of the Ministry of Industry and Trade

  in charge of the CzechInvest agency,

  explained.

  The seminar also featured a presentation

  by the Director of the Investment and

  Foreign Activities Division, Denisa

  Fukalová, and Jakub Hájek, a foreign

  representative in Japan. Their talk focused

  on outlining the current economic

  environment of Czechia and the specific

  benefits investing in Czechia can offer.

  In these cases, foreign representatives of

  the CzechInvest agency can then help

  transfer solutions, including investors, that

  have already been tested in the supply

  chains of semiconductor manufacturers

  around the world.

  The seminar then focused on key questions

  Taiwanese companies had about investing

  in Czechia. These questions included the

  availability of experts in technical fields,

  the incentives the Czech government

  offers, or the suitability of Czech locations

  for Taiwanese investment. Other topics

  discussed at the seminar were the broader

  trends of the European semiconductor

  industry, and the recent EU Chips Act that

  aims to support the development of chips

  and creation of a European semiconductor

  ecosystem. The fully booked investment

  seminar was but one of many steps Czechia

  is taking to support foreign investment,

  especially in the semiconductor industry.

  TSMC (TWSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM), Robert Bosch GmbH, Infineon Technologies AG

  (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), and NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) today

  announced a plan to jointly invest in European Semiconductor Manufacturing

  Company (ESMC) GmbH, in Dresden, Germany to provide advanced

  semiconductor manufacturing services. ESMC marks a significant step towards

  construction of a 300mm fab to support the future capacity needs of the fast-

  growing automotive and industrial sectors, with the final investment decision

  pending confirmation of the level of public funding for this project. The project is

  planned under the framework of the European Chips Act.

  The planned fab is expected to have

  a monthly production capacity of

  40,000 300mm (12-inch) wafers on

  TSMC’s 28/22 nanometer planar CMOS

  and 16/12 nanometer FinFET process

  technology, further strengthening Europe’s

  semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem

  with advanced FinFET transistor technology

  and creating about 2,000 direct high-tech

  professional jobs. ESMC aims to begin

  construction of the fab in the second half

  of 2024 with production targeted to begin

  by the end of 2027.

  The planned joint venture will be 70% owned

  by TSMC, with Bosch, Infineon, and NXP

  each holding 10% equity stake, subject to

  regulatory approvals and other conditions.

  Total investments are expected to exceed

  10 billion euros consisting of equity injection,

  debt borrowing, and strong support from the

  European Union and German government.

  The fab will be operated by TSMC.

  Recently almost every single country is

  facing the challenge of “lack of people

  willing to work at traditional manufacturing

  facilites”. To assist clients ease such pain, our

  when abnormalties occur or is about to

  Satisfying customers' demands and investing

  in growing with them are what Jern Yao

  has been doing for over 31 years. We have

  the ability to develop equipment meeting

  the specific needs of different customers,

  as well as provide simple solutions or

  standard equipment based on the nature

  of the customer's products and cost

  considerations. For example, we overcame

  the inherent traditional limitations of weight

  and movement of exchanging die/punch

  block mechanisms to shorten a customer's

  tooling changeover time (measured in

  seconds) to successfully met customer's

  requirements. We’ve also developed an auto

  tooling changing robotic arm mechanism to

  help reduce customers’ reliance on operator

  experience.

  Jern Yao has always been committed to

  improving the safety and automation of

  our products. In terms of safety and in light

  of the fact that European customers have

  been placing more and more emphases on

  equipment safety and that the governments

  of those countries have required imported

  equipment must be certified to a higher level

  of CE standard in recent years, Jern Yao has

  been working hard to lead the industry in

  obtaining the TÜV NORD CE certification

  (MD, LVD, EMC), which is known to be the

  most stringent and difficult to obtain.

  With regards to carbon emission control,

  Jern Yao’s European machines are all

  standard to equip IE-3 energy efficient

  main motor. We also add digital electricity

  meter to allow users to extract related

  data and calculate overall factory carbon

  emission with ease. Jern Yao is also currently

  receiving counseling on ESG to respond

  to the market's growing interest in energy

  conservation and carbon reduction.

  In addition, unlike some competitors that

  often use components made in China

  which has much less requirements on

  material stability and machining precision

  in order to reduce production costs, Jern

  Yao has insisted on using only parts made

  in Taiwan to manufacture equipment since

  our inception. Our key components are

  machined in-house. In order to fully control

  components’ manufacturing process

  and improve machining precision, we

  are currently building a 12,562 m

  2

  from our existing facility (estimated to be

  fully operational around Q3 2024). Upon

  completion, it will have several new high-

  end CNC machining equipment and FOUR

  5-Face CNC milling machines that are not

  yet been introduced to Taiwan fastener
