A Czech company is the first to test 5G and WiFi 6 on the Czech railway

of data per day, while the remaining 5%
transfer around 13 GB. "The consumption
of data is not related to the number of
passengers, but to their needs and the de-
velopment of technology, for example,
with higher resolution of the films being
watched," Krutina adds. Therefore, AMiT
expects a significant increase in the num-
ber of users with higher data transfer rates
in the coming years.
The new AMiT routers with 5G and WiFi
6 technologies in the vehicle units allow
for up to 12 SIM cards. The transmitted
signal is thus more stable and up to three
times faster. "This means that if one of
the operators has an outage, the passen-
ger won't even notice it. The unique bon-
ding technology replaces this outage
with a signal from another provider. At
the same time, thanks to the WiFi 6 tech-
nology used, individual passenger devices
do not interfere with each other," explains
Aleš Krutina. Another advantage is the
possibility of implementing a SIM card of
a foreign operator for long-distance inter-
state connections, and a built-in GPS re-
ceiver is used to switch at the border.
"It's not only about carrying WiFi for pas-
sengers. Today's coaches draw online da-
ta about themselves (telemetry data) and
they can also send data," Krutina explains.
For example, a coach arriving at a railway
yard will download information about the
future route. Or it is able to receive infor-
mation en route about the connections of
other trains at stations and inform passen-
gers about this via information systems.
With the introduction of 5G technology
and the new Wifi 6 wireless standard on
railways, the next logical step, according
to Aleš Krutina, should be the gradual int-
roduction of Wi-Fi connectivity in public
transport, for which the solution develo-
ped by AMiT is also suitable.
