TMTS 2026 Taiwan‘s Machine Tool Cluster Opens Its Doors to Europe
The Taiwan Machine Tool Show returns to Taichung this year with a clear message for European visitors: come for the exhibition, stay for the ecosystem. Artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, and a uniquely concentrated industrial cluster make TMTS 2026 a compelling destination for Czech and European companies seeking serious technology partnerships.
We spoke with Patrick P. Chen of the Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders‘ Association (TMBA). His pitch for European visitors goes well beyond the exhibition floor.
What can Czech and European companies look forward to at TMTS 2026? Why should they make the trip?
„One of the most important things is that the venue is in Taichung. Around 90 percent of Taiwan‘s machine tool production value is concentrated within a 60-kilometer radius of the city. So not only can you explore new technologies through TMTS, you also have the opportunity to visit the factories directly, to see how things are made and how the manufacturing industry in Taiwan actually works.“
That geographic density is not just a logistical convenience. It means visitors can move from trade fair floor to production hall in a matter of minutes, gaining a ground-level understanding of the supply chains and manufacturing capabilities behind the products on display.
What are the key technology themes this year?
„The buzzword right now is how to apply AI in manufacturing and machine tools. This time, a lot of our exhibitors are showcasing AI applications for digital and green transformation, and how these can be used to build smarter, more sustainable manufacturing solutions that require less manual labor than before.“
Chen is direct about the stakes involved: „We don‘t want to be the people who get eliminated by people who use AI.“ That urgency is shaping how TMBA coordinates its member companies. Rather than leaving individual firms to develop AI applications in isolation, the association is actively pushing for collective solutions across the industry.
What makes this year‘s exhibition different from previous editions?
Beyond individual machines, this year‘s TMTS places emphasis on what Chen calls ecosystem solutions. Exhibitors are not only presenting their own products but also bringing suppliers and partners into their booths to demonstrate how AI components integrate across the broader production chain. The goal is to address customer pain points holistically, rather than offering standalone technical answers.
„Visitors can see a different perspective on how to utilize the advantages of the Taichung cluster to deliver highly responsive solutions for customers,“ Chen adds.
So companies looking for a strong partner in complex AI development will be at home here?
„Definitely. The semiconductor industry in Taiwan is very prominent right now, and that is influencing every company in the country, including machine tool manufacturers. We are, in a sense, the upstream part of the value chain for all our customers. Everyone is working intensively on new AI applications for smart manufacturing.“
For Czech and European firms, TMTS 2026 offers a rare chance to engage with an industrial cluster that combines scale, density, and a collective drive toward AI-integrated manufacturing, all within a single city.
